Morges, city of flowers
Morges and its castle live to the rhythm of flowers all year round, particularly during the Tulip Festival or the dahlia quay. Its vineyards produce Morges AOC, the major appellation in the Lake Geneva Region.
Morges is a typical lakeside town opposite majestic Mont-Blanc. Its pedestrian central street in the heart of the old town is the venue of lively markets and shops. Restaurants serve Morges AOC wine, the major appellation in the Lake Geneva Region.
Above the central street and the port, Morges Castle houses the Military Museum of the Lake Geneva Region, the Artillery Museum, the Swiss Museum of historical figurines, as well as the Museum of the Police.
Every year, the Tulip festival celebrates the return of spring. A hundred thousand tulips form brightly coloured banks in the 30,000 sq.m Parc de l'Indépendance. Floralies, which presents 400 iris varieties, is held in May at Vuillerens Castle. In summer, the dahlia quay brightens up the shore in Morges, where the only Mediterranean galley on Lake Geneva, La Liberté, is moored. This 55 m long vessel, which was inaugurated in 2002, was built for over five years by the unemployed.
